Impact

To protect the planet, we start with you.
We generate a positive impact on the planet through activities designed to improve people’s well-being.

Our approach to impact:

Sustainability starts with people

For many companies today, nothing is more important than people: the people who are part of the company, those who contribute to its goals, and those it serves. And yet, efforts to prioritise these essential relationships are often not enough, especially because many companies are still stuck in a mindset focused on extracting value from people rather than working with them to create a better future (Source: Deloitte Insights, 2024). We believe change should be built around the idea of human sustainability: the extent to which a company creates value for people as human beings, through a genuine commitment to their health and well-being, their skills development, their sense of belonging, and an authentic connection with their goals.

Engagement is built together

Globally, employee engagement, meaning people’s commitment, active participation, and sense of belonging in what they do, stood at 23% in 2022, but in Europe it falls to 13%, and in Italy to below 5% (Source: Gallup, State of the Global Workplace Report 2023)). Worldwide, 6 out of 10 people feel disengaged from their work, a psychological strain that amounts to roughly 9% of global GDP. People’s engagement also matters more than the workplace itself: a poor relationship with the team or with managers causes stress that is 3.8 times greater than the stress associated with being in the office and commuting to get there. At WildSteps, we start from the assumption that our team activities in nature can never be a magic wand for solving deep-rooted issues in relationships between teams or between individuals and managers. What we aim to do is engage companies like yours in a gradual and authentic path of change, starting with one small step and offering a long-term perspective.

Nature makes us feel better

People who spend more time in nature show lower rates of depression and hypertension, while those who take part in outdoor activities more frequently demonstrate stronger social cohesion skills (Source: Nature, 2016). A dose of 30 minutes outdoors during the week can significantly improve people’s well-being. Time spent in nature makes us more creative, active, calm, energised, focused, and resilient. And that’s not all: it regulates our biological clocks, helps prevent premature ageing, improves mood, and strengthens our connection with ourselves. At WildSteps, we create outdoor-for-good activities that make a meaningful investment in improving each person’s mental and physical health.

Knowing nature changes nature

Citizen science is an affordable, practical, and engaging way to collect data across broad time and spatial scales, especially in biodiversity conservation, while also generating a positive impact on people. Data collected by ordinary individuals under expert guidance often leads to important findings and can support the management of various threatened species. At WildSteps, we design citizen science activities above all for the positive effects they have on the people who take part in them. Many studies show that taking part in citizen science activities leads to greater scientific literacy, a stronger role for people within society, more pro-environmental behaviour, and improved attitudes towards nature (Source: British Ecological Society, 2021).

At the core of our impact

MEASUREMENT INDICATORS

Our 4 regenerative criteria

Well-Being

Mental and physical well-being within the cultural landscape
All the adventures, team games, challenges, and activities we organise in nature are designed to support the well-being of both participants and organisers. Empathy, listening, tolerance, accessibility, respect, and educational and social skills allow us to create experiences specifically designed to help people feel better, both mentally and physically.

Awareness

Awareness of the cultural landscape
This is the environmental regenerativity criterion that tells us that the activities we carry out in nature strengthen participants’ ecological and historical awareness of the landscape they explore. At the end of each experience, participants gain new theoretical tools that are valuable for further actions of protection, enhancement, and promotion of our shared heritage.

Soft Action

Monitoring the cultural landscape
Not just observation, play, and fun, but also environmental monitoring and care actions aimed at checking its state of health. It applies to all citizen science activities and may therefore include, among others, flora and fauna monitoring, measuring pollution in lakes and rivers, studying climate change in snowy environments, and much more.

Deep Action

The conservation and restoration of the cultural landscape
This is the most ambitious criterion, the one that can truly transform a place through collective commitment. It applies to all our activities linked to specific project conditions, together with partners such as scientific research centres or bodies responsible for protecting the cultural landscape. It includes experiences such as caring for and releasing endangered species into the wild, building biodiversity oases, restoring degraded areas to a natural state, and much more.

IMPACT AREAS

We turn experiences into concrete actions for the planet and for people

Our team-building activities generate a positive impact on multiple fronts. Discover how.

NATURAL HERITAGE
A THOUSAND-YEAR HERITAGE
The activities and nature experiences we offer through WildSteps take place within what is known as the cultural landscape, that is, within a thousand-year-old landscape heritage shaped by the combination of human work and wild nature. When this relationship is in balance, it ensures long-term prosperity both for people and for the biodiversity and geodiversity that host and sustain them.
CULTURAL AND FOOD HERITAGE
ROOTS AND FLAVOURS OF THE TERRITORY
We enhance local traditions and regional products, creating authentic connections with each place. Our team-building experiences immerse participants in the rich history and culture of the territory, allowing them to discover ancient traditions, local arts, and crafts. Through guided tastings and meetings with local producers, we offer a sensory journey through the region’s food and wine excellence, promoting food biodiversity and supporting local economies.
“No one protects what they do not care about, and no one cares about what they have never experienced.”
David Attenborough

How do we measure our social impact?

If we consider:

+20

Monitoring the cultural landscape

We apply this criterion to all experiences that involve not only observation, play, and fun, but also small monitoring and maintenance actions by those who participate, with the aim of studying the cultural landscape more deeply, monitoring it, and ensuring its health. It covers all participatory science activities, as well as quality control, wildlife geolocation, measurements, and study, from birdwatching to snow measurements, from freshwater controls to cloud study.

It all comes full circle!

The impact of investing in regeneration protects nature and increases revenue.

Today, companies have a remarkable opportunity to build a distinctive identity around their efforts to address their impact on natural capital. Acting for nature is not just another burden to deal with, nor a trendy angle for the next marketing campaign, but something that can bring tangible benefits to revenue as well as to natural heritage. Companies that make concrete investments in sustainable actions are more likely to increase their financial value while also generating a positive impact on people and on the environment (Source: Accenture, 2021). Through our outdoor activities, we offer your company an effective people-first approach, without requiring you to do anything beyond involving your team and bringing them into nature with us.

Since 2024, we have been part of a certified B Corp.

This means that business profit is not our only goal, and never will be. It is, and will always be, matched by the positive impact we are committed to generating for the environment and for people, both as a group, meaning other companies, and as individuals. With this certification, we chose to become part of a global community of inspiring companies committed to doing things the right way. We were awarded an initial score of 94.4 out of 200, a result that makes us incredibly proud and places us within an exclusive network of only a small number of other virtuous companies in Italy.
