RINA – Genoa Beach Cleanup

When the beach transforms into an open-air laboratory.

When RINA’s communications and marketing team decided to do their part for the environment, they didn’t limit themselves to conventional waste collection. With our help, they transformed Sturla beach into an open-air laboratory, where every action contributed to the collection of vital data for our sea.

Who, how much and where:

Objectives

Here are the challenges we set ourselves:

Mission #1

Turn a team-building day into a concrete contribution to marine science.

Mission #2

Turn a team-building day into a concrete contribution to marine science.

Where the magic happened:

Sturla beach is a place of relaxation for the people of Genoa. For one day, it also became a research centre, where every piece of litter collected told a story about the health of our sea.

The adventure in a nutshell.

Here is how we turned a beach clean-up into a scientific mission:

  1. Team split: the group divided into teams, each responsible for a specific area of the beach.
  2. A reverse treasure hunt: instead of looking for valuable objects, participants collected and catalogued every type of litter.
  3. A laboratory on the sand: each group analysed what it had collected, sorting it by type, material, and possible origin.
  4. A laboratory on the sand: each group analysed what it had collected, sorting it by type, material, and possible origin.
The result?
BOOM!

A cleaner beach for the people who use Sturla beach

A more united team, more aware of the impact of its actions on the environment
