CMA CGM team building
CMA CGM, a global operator in maritime, land, and air logistics, joined forces with WildSteps and The BlackBag.
To engage its team for World Cleanup Day, CMA CGM chose an outdoor team-building experience called Take a Walk on the Science Side.
The activity, held at Parco delle Mura in Genoa, was not just a clean-up initiative. In fact, the goal was also part of a global effort to monitor local biodiversity using scientific protocols.
This nature-focused outdoor team-building activity aimed to preserve the natural beauty of the area and raise the team’s awareness of the current environmental situation.

CMA CGM’s unique approach to sustainability
Take a Walk on the Science Side was a highly customizable experience that included both a clean-up activity and biodiversity monitoring.
This initiative aimed first and foremost to restore the beauty of the place and educate participants about environmental pollution. The final goal was therefore to improve environmental awareness within the team.

Take a Walk on the Science Side: how does it work?
Take a Walk on the Science Side is an outdoor team-building experience based on a trekking route that encourages people to look at nature with curious eyes.
This activity allows participants to learn through observation and the use of simple scientific protocols. In this way, they not only get to know the environment better, but also contribute to its protection!
The activity began with a scientific briefing by Federico Biguzzi, biologist and naturalist at WildSteps. Then, the CMA CGM team walked along the park trails, collecting waste along the way and monitoring local flora and fauna with iNaturalist.
At the end of the activity, after the debriefing, participants shared their thoughts and reflections.
Scientific cataloguing: what is the positive impact?
During clean-up activities, waste collection is an important part of ecological restoration. However, monitoring the number and types of waste found can be very useful for scientific purposes.
During every sustainable team-building experience organized by WildSteps, all data are shared with the scientific community.
